The Postgraduate Program in Malting and Brewing Sciences at KU Leuven trains students to be experts in the malting and brewing process. We offer an in-depth scientific education of the entire malting and brewing process, blending lectures from world renown researchers and industry experts with company site visits and hands on practical experiments and brewery trials in our pilot brewing facilities.

The course content is designed to give an in-depth scientific viewpoint of every stage of the malting and brewing process, and includes the science of the raw materials of brewing, fermentation science, the malting and brewing equipment and processes, packaging, sensory science, and the economics of the industry. Outside of the classroom, students get both hands on brewing experience in our two pilot breweries, and practical laboratory experience, investigating experimental questions relating to the malting and brewing process. Alongside this, visits to companies such as Boon brewery, AB InBev, and Meura highlight how the theory is implemented on an industrial scale.
